Endangered Whooping Cranes are the largest birds in North America. Their winter nesting grounds for over fifty years have been the huge Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. While you can see Whooping Cranes from an observation tower, the best way to see Whooping Cranes is to take one of the Whooping Crane Tour Boats.

While alligators are common in the refuge, we would intentionally miss the alligators, since we were traveling with small dogs on a leash, or from the alligators view, a snack on a string. We value our dogs too much to put them at risk.
See the Whooping Crane Tour Boats page for more about Whooping Cranes.
