If you want to see large numbers of whooping cranes, you need to take a boat tour. There are two boats that can be used to view Whooping Cranes from the water. The Wharf Cat is good. The Skimmer Boat of Tommy Moore is better. Tommy knows the whooping cranes and other birds of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge extremely well, pays attention to what is happening, and can get into extremely shallow water to give you a good view.
