Wildlife (game) can be plentiful in the Badlands in times of rain and moderate heat. Originally called the "White Hills" by Native Americans, the name "Badlands" was applied early French traders and is applicable in a hot summer during a drought. The Badlands would not have been easy to travel through at any time, and traders did need to travel.
